New Voices In Space.

This working group focuses on newspace approaches to improve accessibility to the space industry.

New Voices In Space.

The New Voices in Space working group is committed to increasing equality, diversity and inclusivity in the UK space sector. The core values of New Voices in Space are centred around highlighting that the opportunities in the space sector are open to all, regardless of background or demographics.

Chaired by Dr. Athina Frantzana, the group actively engages in projects that promote educational outreach, STEM activities, and meaningful collaborations to showcase the range of both technical and non-technical roles that anyone can play in the sector.

New Voices in Space are currently delivering a satellites in schools programme to reach rural children and teachers. This important and inspiring initaitive was kindly sponsored by Intel. Previously, the group led the creation of an EDI guidance pack for Scottish space companies that can be downloaded from our Strategic Documents tab in the main menu of the Space Scotland website. The group has also worked with ROOM Space Journal to write and publish a series of informative articles regarding space sector opportunities beyond the typical 'science and technology' roles for university graduates. With these collaborations, we aim to create a more inclusive space community that celebrates diversity at all levels.

"I would say that it is not getting any easier to excite and inspire kids with the same old science lessons and we really need to think carefully and creatively to find ways to do this while covering the required content. One of the main obstacles is resources which are not cheap for schools on tight budgets. The Ambasat Space Satellite Course and kits have certainly inspired my pupils and resulted in them looking forward to their Physics lessons. They are gaining skills, knowledge and hands on experience in a wide range of STEM subjects which not only relate to the curriculum but also the real world of work and all within a topic, Space which most are inherently excited about. I’m sure by the end of this course my pupils will feel a real sense of achievement and will have a greater knowledge of the opportunities that a STEM/Space career could offer them."
