Sustainable Space: Legal and Regulatory Aspects from a Contemporary UK Viewpoint

As part of Space Scotland's UK Space Agency Space Cluster Development Fund project, Space Scotland is pleased to host an online event with Dr. Nicholas Ross from Niparo on the 16th February, 2024 from 1300 - 1445 GMT.

The United Kingdom has two major pieces of domestic legislation that are related to space actives: the Outer Space Act 1986 (OSA) and the Space Industry Act 2018 (SIA). The UK in general and Scotland in particular, has also been self-championing itself in the regulatory, insurance and liabilities arenas as a “space sustainability” leader.

As part of Space Scotland's UK Space Agency Space Cluster Development Fund project, Space Scotland is pleased to host an online event with Dr. Nicholas Ross from Niparo on the 16th February, 2024 from 1300 - 1445 GMT.

In this workshop we will give a starting ‘international and domestic’ presentation on space law. We will give a quick overview of the current legislation, discuss its strengths and weaknesses, and point towards how domestic legislation and regulation can potentially help issues involved in spacecraft disposal and re-entry. We will then open the up the floor for discussion, focusing on Scotland’s contemporary space sustainability efforts.
